ME & MY JACKET

' the (dis) connection between people to people ' The London based designer Si Chan based his A/W13 mens collection 'Hug Me' on loneliness between human beings.

Like Si Chan says ' Everybody needs love, don't they? '. With his collection he puts the focus on 'hands'. We use our hands to interact and communicate, to show love and to make a physical connection. Each piece in 'Hug Me' has his own story. Just like every hug or touch has his own story, a different meaning. For instance a big hug from a dear friend or walking hand in hand with your lover. With this collection Si Chan wants to make people feeling loved and not alone.

Si Chan based his collection on loneliness between human beings. And that's what's happening right now within society. But has the rise of the social web something to do with that? Do people still connect 'offline'?  Or maybe the rising unemployment because of the crisis is the reason why people became social isolated. A recent subject and also a reason why I find this collection interesting.

We live in a pretty individualistic society. But slowly we realize what really matters, give and feel loved. Are we turning from an 'I' society into a 'We' society?
